Noctara Privacy

Privacy

This page explains what Noctara stores, where it’s stored, and what Noctara does (and does not) track.

Plain-English summary: Noctara is not an ad business. It does not sell your data. The goal is to store as little as possible while still letting the app work the way you configure it.

What you store in Noctara

Noctara stores the information needed to run the app the way you set it up. This can include:

  • Watchlists (tickers you follow)
  • Portfolios (your folders and grouped tickers)
  • Favorites (starred tickers for quick access)
  • Notification preferences (enabled categories, thresholds, cooldowns, sounds, Dock badge preference)
  • Pinboard items (saved tickers, saved articles, and notes)
  • Basic app preferences (theme choice, reduce motion)

Where your data lives

Local storage

Noctara uses device-local storage to remember preferences and (when applicable) local app data. This is how settings like theme, notification sound, and reduce motion can persist on a device.

Cloud Sync (account-backed)

If you link Cloud Sync, Noctara stores your app data in cloud storage tied to your account. This allows your lists and settings to persist across sessions and supports features that require reliable saving.

Cloud Sync is powered by Supabase. You can review their privacy policy here: supabase.com/privacy.

Web app note: In the web app, watchlists and portfolios save reliably only when Cloud Sync is linked. Pinboard is also unavailable while unlinked.

Market data and news

Noctara fetches market prices, movers, and news headlines from external data providers. When you open pages like News, Noctara requests feed content so it can be displayed in the UI.

  • Some sources may show paywall or login hints to help you decide what to open.
  • If you open an article, you are sent to the publisher’s website and their privacy policy applies there.

Like any web request, providers may receive standard request information such as your IP address and browser details.

Notifications

Noctara notifications are configurable and based on your settings. They can include:

  • In-app banners for price moves, news, volume, and events
  • Optional notification sounds (OS beep when available, otherwise an internal tone)
  • Optional macOS Dock badge count (desktop only)

You can disable market notifications any time via Settings → Notifications. System alerts (such as Cloud Sync health messages) may still appear so you do not lose data unexpectedly.

What Noctara does not do

  • No advertising model: Noctara is not built around ads or ad identifiers.
  • No selling personal data: there is no data-broker model.
  • No contacts or social scraping: Noctara does not need your contacts or social accounts.

Your controls

  • Notifications: enable/disable, tune thresholds, and set cooldowns.
  • Sound & motion: toggle notification sounds; enable Reduce motion.
  • Cloud Sync: link/unlink (web app requires linking for persistence).
  • Pinboard: add/remove saved tickers, articles, and notes.
